Basic Guide to House Rendering

Rendering is an exterior finish that can be used in different buildings. There are different types of rendering available as well that you can choose according to your requirements. House rendering is similar to cladding where the exterior of the building is covered. It can be applied to the exterior walls much like how we apply plaster.

There are many benefits you can get from rendering as well. It will provide protection to the walls and prevent rain water from penetrating the wall. It also improves the aesthetical appearance of the house. There are different colours that you can use. Some will also have different chemicals which provide further protection. For example, there are acrylic insulated renders that will add to the energy efficiency of the house. If you have a large property it can be an expensive option as there is more area to cover. You also need to choose the right material when rendering a house so that maximum protection from the weather can be obtained. If you use an incorrect render, removing it can be costly as well.

Rendering products have existed long ago as well but the variety of the products has increased with the availability of new technology. Lime rendering was a method that was done to older houses and it provided a measure of protection from rain and heat. If dampness is the issue you are trying to fix with using a render, you need to have additional solutions in place that will help. If you have leaking issues from the roof, it is best to fix those issues before starting to render. Some of the different materials used for rendering are cement, silicone, acrylic, polymer and monocouche. Cement renders may develop cracks over time and water can come in through these cracks. You also need to look at the cost of repainting when you choose cement render. Polymer renders are better when preventing cracks and you will find that fibres are added to acrylic renders to avoid this issue as well. Silicone renders can last a long time and have self-cleaning properties. Compared to other renders, monocouche has increased ease of use so it can be applied faster. But it is also quite expensive.

Depending on the area that you are living in and the surface area that needs to be covered, the price of house rendering will differ. It will also depend on the type of rendering you choose. It is best to have your house rendered by a professional so that you get the desired finish. Due to the cost of the render and the high visibility of the rendered area, you need to place more priority on the quality of the finish. Most of the time, you will not need planning permission to carry out house rendering. However, you need to think about the overall look of the street and the neighbouring houses when you choose a colour. If for instance, you are living in a conservation area, you may require permission. So it is always a good idea to check with the planning department before you proceed.
